Prohibition Of Foreign Trainer

Turkish Trainers struggled for self-proof till the end of 70's. One can shame on him seeing or hearing the practices of foreign trainers, most notably the Yugoslavian ones. In a way the sport clubs open their doors to every foreigner who says he was a trainer. This situation became humorous subject of caricatures, televisions and shows. It was a privilege to became a foreigner. Abdullah Gegic who was a Yugoslavian trainer with Turkish origin, had transformed Eskisehirspor to first league and after this he was taken on to permanent staff of big clubs. Actually Gegic was really very talented and learned trainer. Gegic who had academic career, took his Ph. Degree in Germany and became the only trainer with Doctor title.

When he applied to be Turkish citizen, the offers by clubs ended. Gegic became a Turk. The adoration of foreigners was overextended. There should be an end to this. All the trainers wanted this in 1975 Izmir seminar.

We brought the prohibition of foreign trainer when I was Federation president in 1978. In those days I said to my trainer friends to use this chance, otherwise following administrations would change this decision, and I was right. Today, the conditions are changed, there cannot be such prohibitions because our trainers had proved themselves. They are superior from foreign trainer. This exhausting profession need education and knowledge to be improved. Someone had to be start this in Turkey. It was a great honor to be the forerunner of this with our Association.

The rivalry among the trainers should not be turned to a battle. We have to say the successes of our own friends. Fortunately this line has been exceeded recently.
